After several successive years of excellent results on my annual physicals, I figure this must be one of the things this old Nam Vet is doing right. However, health food is wasted unless it is combined with regular and strenuous exercise. Try this for a Total breakfast. Add two tablespoons of Oregon Blueberries from Amazon.Com and two tablespoons of crushed almonds over your Total. Sweeten with Splenda. Pour on either skim milk or light soy milk. Add coffee, orange juice and a banana on the side - and then go work out for a half day. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful By Daniel M. It looks and tastes like Wheaties, but it is also a daily vitamin pill in flake form. The only reservations I have with this cereal are the amount of salt (Sodium) (140mg), the same as Cheerios, and the amount of Sugars (5g), a little more than Cheerios (1g), and Rice Krispies (4g), but less Sodium than Rice Krispies (190mg). Processed foods in general contain far too much salt and sugar. That being said, you don't find too many cereals with the daily vitamin content of Total. Most cereals only have a minimal amount of vitamins per serving. Total is a little low in Vitamin A (10 % MDR), Vitamin D (25% MDR), Phosphorous (8% MDR), and Magnesium (6% MDR). The rest of the vitamins and minerals ( C, Calcium, Iron, D, E, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, B6, Folic Acid, B12, Pantothenic Acid, and Zinc) are at 100% MDR. If you forget your daily vitamin pill, after adding milk, you are... I usually eat old fashioned oats that I pick from Aldi or Walmart for about $2 for a big jar and it lasts me for few weeks. But plain oats is not fortified with vitamins and minerals. So I fell for the so called "100% of 12 vitamins...." in Total Cereal. After doing some research it turns out that your body doesn't absorb synthetic elements and compounds as readily as natural ones. So the 100% of vitamins actually becomes more like 10-20%. Also the box says it has only 5 grams of sugar per serving but it tastes very sweet and the sweet taste hangs on for a long time after you are done eating your cereal. I basically have to brush my teeth to get that out.Just keep that in mind while buying this or any other cereal. Don't fall for the marketing. Supposedly the cereal industry is a multi-billion dollar industry due to all their marketing... I would go back to my old fashioned oats and supplement with fruits and vegetables or may be...
